About This Spot

Stepping into Artisan Café feels like finding a quiet corner of warmth amid the gentle bustle of Oxford’s St Aldate’s. The soft murmur of conversation mingles with the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee, inviting you to pause and settle into a moment that’s unhurried yet alive with a welcoming energy. This isn’t the kind of place where time rushes past; here, the pace invites lingering — whether you’re catching up with a friend, diving into a book, or simply savoring a solitary cup.

Behind the counter, familiar faces greet you with genuine warmth, crafting each drink and dish as if it were a small act of kindness. The menu feels thoughtfully curated rather than contrived, offering comforting classics alongside unexpected delights that reveal a love for good, honest food. Pastries arrive fresh and flaky, their buttery layers as satisfying as a quiet morning’s sunbeam, while the cappuccinos and matcha lattes carry a reassuring richness that grounds the senses.

There’s a casual intimacy here, a sense that the café is as much a part of the neighbourhood as the ancient streets outside. Students, locals, visitors — they all find a quiet refuge, a community nook where the staff know a name or take the time to help you reclaim a forgotten item. The lively hum of the space ebbs and flows through the day, from the morning energy of a well-made breakfast to the gentle, afternoon lull broken only by the occasional laughter or the comforting clink of crockery.

In a city filled with larger chains and hurried routines, Artisan Café offers a slice of something more human — a place where the small details matter, and the experience feels quietly crafted for those who appreciate the simple pleasure of good company, good food, and a beautifully made cup of coffee.

I frequent this lovely cafe regularly and have never reviewed. I need to correct that. Staff are incredibly friendly welcoming and - if you leave stuff lying about in there - they take time and effort to repatriate your screwdrivers. The coffee is excellent and unlike all the big chains, they make their pastries fresh every day. They are excellent, though I do have to cut back on the amount of almond croissants I seem to be consuming of late. The artisan breakfast is excellent value, cooked fresh and served piping hot. I like my baked beans served in a little pot because - just like Alan Partridge - I want to make the call on who they interact with. This cafe is outstanding, they understand customer service, value and their rightful place in the heart of the city. Often busy but the customer base is transient, you won't wait long to sit. Continued success in 2026

Nice little cafe near Oxford city centre. In the age of generic coffee chains, it’s refreshing to see a cosy place with friendly staff serving homemade drinks and food! Our kids loved it too. I would recommend to check this place out if you’re a student looking for a friendly spot to work from or just in need of a hot drink and snacks.

I’m a huge coffee lover, but I can’t stand coffee chains. On my way to the post office, which was just 20 minutes from opening, I stumbled upon Artisan Café right next door. I stepped in and was immediately impressed by the unique atmosphere, far from the typical chain coffee shop vibe. I was warmly greeted by Sacha, who made me an incredible cappuccino and set me up for a great day ahead. Make sure to visit this charming and distinctive coffee shop next to the post office in Oxford, and keep an eye out for Sacha and her friendly smile! Best regards, G.B. ⸻

Nice and cozy cafe! All the staff that were working provided great customer service and were all kind and friendly. Special shout out to one of the baristas Diego - I was struggling with deciding what to get and he explained the options with a warm and welcoming tone. He understood my needs and helped recommend (and make) a great drink!

Amazing place, personally my favourite cafe in Oxford. My go-to place for an oat matcha latte and a cinnamon roll. Great choice of drinks and pastries, everything is freshly baked. I have also ordered their catering services for my school’s graduation and it was insanely good!!! Well exceeded expectations and a very good value for money. I really recommend Artisan as a catering company! Their staff is also very friendly and personable, Kate is absolutely great to work with! Thank you very much Kate and all your team! Xx

11th June 2024 I really enjoyed my first visit to this lovely café. There's a wide range of homemade dishes to choose from all made from fresh ingredients. The service was excellent, efficient and friendly. I sat at a beautiful rustic bench style table, ideally situated at the entrance where I had a beautiful view of St Aldates. The smoked salmon salad was adequately portioned and came with a side of pesto dressing which was absolutely delicious, I had to ask for a top up which was no trouble at all. It was also so nice to enjoy a breakfast bap that's not served in a brioche bun but rather as English tradition intended! Coupled with a tea or latte of you choice, it was an affordable £5.95. I'm looking forward to my next visit to this delightful cafe in the near future Thanks for a welcoming and friendly experience
